Templestowe
Templestowe was established as a village on the Yarra in the 1850’s and is one of the oldest areas of settlement in Manningham. Substantial development began in the 1970’s and 1980’s, with areas subdivided at both conventional and lower densities. Today, Templestowe is an established and maturing residential area, with an increasing population driven by the addition of new dwellings. Striking an unusual balance between city and country, Templestowe is located only 17km from the Melbourne CBD within a green belt flanking the Yarra River which underpins the city’s open space and parkland. Hosting Mullum Mullum Creek Linear Park and bordering Currawong Bush Park, Ruffey Lake Park (the Municipal Gardens), Stiggants Reserve, Tindals Wildflower Reserve and Westerfolds Park, Templestowe is most beautiful in spring with the ensemble of wattle blooms, when the park invites visitors to step on to the observation deck to watch the river tumble over rapids. Take a canoe ride, absorb the sights from horseback or meet the native creatures of the night on a ranger-led nocturnal walk. Also offering a number of natural attractions, including ample parklands, contrasting with its large, modern shopping malls, Templestowe is located in the north-eastern area of Melbourne and borders the Yarra River. With a striking landscape of gentle rolling hills, rounded slopes and forested gullies, this wonderful suburb provides everything you need for your family. Serviced by a modest bus network operating routes to the city and surrounding suburbs, the close proximity to The Pines Shopping Centre and choice of well regarded schools including Serpells, Templestowe Heights, Templestowe Park and Templestowe Valley Primary and two Catholic schools Saint Charles Borromeo and Saint Kevin’s provides primary education, whilst Templestowe College services some of the demand for secondary education. Offering sporting facilities at Templestowe Reserve, tennis courts, The Templestowe Dockers football team, East Templestowe Football Club (soccer) and the ever popular Aquarena Aquatic and leisure centre, Templestowe is a first class venue to spend your recreation time with complete enjoyment.
