Doncaster East
Positioned 19km north-east from Melbourne’s CBD, Doncaster East is located on the hills between Koonung and Mullum Mullum Creek. Like much of the City of Manningham, Doncaster East was predominantly covered in fruit orchards before subdivision began and it quickly became a contiguous part of Melbourne. Housing estates began to replace orchards in the 1960’s, with the last orchard being removed in the 1990’s. As a result of the suburb’s rapid development, Doncaster East has a versatile array of architectural style with many houses converted into attractive units and medium density residential apartments. Today, Doncaster East hosts an abundance of recreational parks and small sporting facilities and consists of rolling hills, creeks, valleys and short ridges. With 3 main meandering watercourses flowing and bordering the suburb (including Ruffey Creek), Doncaster East is home to fitness centres, as well as Anglican, Baptist, Catholic, Gospel, Islamic and Uniting places of worship. Hosting an athletics track, three Australian rules football/cricket ovals, soccer grounds, small to medium commercial services, childcare centres, kindergartens, library, indoor sporting facilities, various playgrounds, retirement villages, medical centres, community hall and Donvale Rehabilitation Centre, this inviting suburb is positioned within easy access to many restaurants and strip shopping, The Pines Shopping Centre, Jackson Court and Devon Plaza just to name a few. Doncaster East services the community with educational facilities such as Onemda Day Training Centre, Milgate Primary, Doncaster Gardens Primary, East Doncaster Secondary College, Donburn Primary, St. Peter, St. Pauls School and Beverley Hills Primary. Offering regular transport facilities that service most of the suburb, Doncaster East has now become very accessible for residents travelling to surrounding Eastern and South-eastern suburbs with the completion of the EastLink tollway project. Catering for the active members of the community, Doncaster East hosts an array of clubs and facilities including Scouts, athletics, football (AFL), soccer, lawn bowls, walking tracks and bike riding. Take pleasure in exploring the banks and pathways of the Mullum Mullum creek and surrounding areas.
