Doncaster

Doncaster is renowned for its “top of the hill” location, complemented by an array of housing opportunities including established brick veneer homes through to high-rise apartment style living at its best. Today Doncaster is a well-established residential and commercial area, with a growing population attributed to the establishment of significant numbers of new dwellings in existing areas. Serviced by the Doncaster Hill precinct, business district and Westfield Shoppingtown (one of the largest shopping centres in Australia), Doncaster is positioned 15km north-east of Melbourne’s central business district and borders Koonung and Ruffey Creek and is home to the ever popular Ruffey Lake Park. Steeped in history, Doncaster houses the historic stone cottage “Schramm’s Cottage” on Victoria Street and the observation tower (285 ft high) built in the 1880’s. Doncaster was the location of the first electric tram to run in Melbourne in 1889. The tram started its run in Doncaster and terminated in Box Hill and consequently was named “Tram Road”, however the service did not earn a profit and ended in 1896. A successful project transforming Central Doncaster (Doncaster Hill) into an apartment and retail mecca, Doncaster delivers fantastic views of the Melbourne CBD skyline and is easily accessible by the Eastern Freeway, Eastlink and regular bus services running from the park and ride centre along dedicated transit lanes to the city. Hosting a choice of educational facilities including Doncaster Secondary College, East Doncaster Secondary College, Birralee Primary School, Doncaster Primary School and Doncaster Gardens Primary School, Doncaster is the proud home to the Australian Rules football team ”The Doncaster Sharks”, The Doncaster Baseball Club and Eastern Golf Club. Accommodating for all members of the family with Rieschieks Reserve, Athletic track, Scouts and Zerbes reserve, Doncaster is indeed a great place to live in style.
